Brown Advisory Group in talks to partner with Rock Creek Group, the $18 billion global investment and advisory firm founded in 2003 by Afsaneh Mashayekhi Beschloss.
Beschloss, an economist and former CIO and Treasurer of the World Bank, will become vice chair of Brown once the deal closes. According to someone familiar with the deal, which received FTC approval and is expected to close later this week, will be a collaborative partnership, not an acquisition. Rock Creek is expected to remain independent, with Beschloss staying on as CEO.
Rock Creek provides multi-asset and OCIO services to institutional clients including large public and corporate pensions, sovereign wealth funds, and endowments and foundations. The Washington-based hedge fund-of-funds will benefit from the global reach and scale of Brown’s $174 billion advisory.
Prior to founding Rock Creek, Beschloss was partner at the Carlyle Group. She was also treasurer and CIO of the World Bank. She has also advised governments and central banks on financial and energy policy.
Beschloss serves on the board of trustees for the Council on Foreign Relations, Georgetown University, Rockefeller Foundation, and National Geographic, where she chairs their Investment Committees. She is also on Carlyle’s board of directors.
