HTC is acquiring a majority stake in U.S. company Beats Electronics, CNET reports. The smartphone maker will buy a 51% interest for $500 million.

The phone maker is likely to allow Beats Electronics to continue operating autonomously. Beats manufactures the Beats by Dr Dre headphones and loudspeakers.
